Academic and Communication Skills 2

This course is designed to equip first-year students with the academic literacies necessary to think and communicate like scientists, mathematicians, and STEM professionals. Emphasis will be placed on understanding and using discipline-specific language, critical thinking, problem-solving, and cross-cultural communication skills. The course will help students engage with STEM texts, participate in group discussions, and develop written and oral communication skills in their fields. Additionally, students will learn the origins of many STEM terms through Latin and Greek roots, which are foundational for understanding complex technical vocabulary. Through collaborative learning, case studies, and problem-based learning (PBL), students will not only develop the vocabulary to succeed in their disciplines but also learn to connect knowledge across STEM fields and engage with global issues through a cultural lens.
